The Sutro reimagines what a coat rack can look like. Taking on the form of a power line tower, especially when it is colored in a distinctive red and white paint, the Sutro uses finely crafted pieces of plywood to form a tripod. The legs jut out and in again to form a sturdy rack that brings an industrial look to the space it’s used in.
Short Chair
Marcel Breuer’s initial venture into progressive furniture for Isokon featured a laminated birch frame with zebrano veneer and a molded plywood seat and back.
Birch Plywood Stool
This plywood stool was designed to be very lightweight and portable. The birch has been cut thin but the chair retains strength through its frame made of four legs connected together at the top and bottom. This allows for the user to rest their feet.
Iso-Lounge Chair
This molded plywood cantilever chair known as the Iso-Lounge Chaire was released by Isokon in 2021. Designed by Jasper Morrison, he drew inspiration from the Isokon studio logo.
Birch Plywood Armchair
This armchair has a clever and uncomplicated design, made from a single sheet of plywood. Composed of thirteen layers of cross-grained veneer, it is initially cut with four straight lines delineating the arms and back legs.
Einser Stool
MOWO’s Einser Stool offered a range of movements, from a calming swing sideways to a muscle-loosening rocking back and forth, and an invigorating tilt forward on a skid with a bouncing sensation. The control was given to the user, making this a hit amongst the furniture scene.
“39” Chaise Longue
The “39” Chaise Longue features a cantilevered frame and uses birch veneers welded together to create a compression spring, providing both structural support and comfortable seating.
Q Stak Chair
The Q Stak Chair, characterized by a one-piece seat and back crafted from 7-ply cherry-faced plywood, features a distinctive cut-out in the center of the back.
Ant Chair
Crafted from a single sheet of plywood, the lightweight chair combined industrial efficiency with organic minimalism, marking a significant shift in design.
Walnut-faced Chair
Crafted from molded 5-ply walnut-faced plywood, the walnut-faced chair features a single-piece seat and back with a triangular opening at their juncture, extending into a vertical slit along the back.
Dining Chair (1946)
This Dining Chair uses a single piece of plywood that functions as both the back and the legs, giving the chair a backwards slant. This is combined with a front facing support under the seat, stabilizing the chair.
